Painfully Hip Locations was conceived around 2016 when LA-based interior designer & graphic artist, Amber Mortensen began renting her 2,500 sq ft antique brick industrial loft out to productions. The loft was so popular, she began to acquire more locations.

In 2017, Amber acquired a location agency with only 10 locations, then quickly tripled her inventory and needed help. Amber thought of her long-time friend in New York, Abby McCreary, who had plenty of hospitality and production experience in addition to a fashion design and production background. Abby was the perfect addition to their quickly growing business. Painfully Hip became an official LLC in 2019.

Painfully Hip Locations.com now receives thousands of visits and booking requests and dozens of incredible location submissions per month. They have booked shoots with hundreds of companies and celebrities ranging from Lexus and Hugo Boss to Kendrick Lamar and Kim Kardashian.

Amber & Abby have more than a decade’s worth of location experience between them working on all sides of the production industry. We have a backlog of unlisted locations that work for a range of budgets.
